DBS Launches a New Podcast for Employers and Safeguarding Professionals

If you're an employer, work in HR, or have any involvement in safeguarding, this one's worth knowing about.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has launched a new weekly podcast series called DBS Discussions: Safeguarding in Focus. Each episode features a subject matter expert from DBS covering key topics relevant to employers, HR professionals, and those working in safeguarding.

What's it about?

The podcast is designed to cut through the confusion that often surrounds DBS checks and make the processes clearer for the people who deal with them day to day. Topics across the series will cover how DBS checks fit into the recruitment process, common questions from employers, eligibility and what counts as regulated activity, how barring decisions are actually made, and the broader role DBS plays in keeping people safe.

In the debut episode, Regional Outreach Manager Jordan Hayden introduces the function of DBS, discussing the impact of checks in recruitment and why DBS holds its position as a trusted organisation in the safeguarding space. Marketing Stockport

Why does this matter?

DBS checks are a routine part of hiring for many businesses — particularly those working with children, vulnerable adults, or in regulated roles. Despite that, there's still a lot of uncertainty around eligibility, what level of check is appropriate, and how the process works in practice. A free, accessible resource that explains this directly from the source is genuinely useful.

If you've ever been unsure whether a role qualifies for an enhanced check, or had questions about how long checks take and what the results mean, this podcast is aimed squarely at answering those kinds of questions.

Where can you listen?

DBS Discussions: Safeguarding in Focus is available on Spotify, Amazon and YouTube, with new episodes released weekly.

The first episode went live on 9 February 2026, so there are already a few episodes to catch up on if you want to get started.
